How long can the cold sore virus live outside of the body??

If a person touched their cold sore and than touched a doorknob, or took the gum out of their mouth and stuck it on a table and lets say a person came and touched either one of those things and they had a cut on their hands or touched their mouth, what would be the chances of them getting the cold sore virus?
