One of the hardest parts in dealing with a cold sore, is that it is visible to the world. A cold sore will last anywhere from nine to twelve days and in, in the meantime, go through many changes. Each of these stages can be painful and embarrassing. The growth increase in size, but when the cycle finishes, it drys up. However, there are a few things you can do to help you win the fight against a cold sore.

Use an anti-bacterial cleaner on the cold sore, and then proceed to wash thoroughly. Pain, itching, and swelling are very common stages of the development of the bacteria. You should try to not scratch or even touch the area affected by the bacteria. You should make an effort to keep your hands clean at all times, for instance if you touch your cold sore or clean it, be sure to wash your hands afterwards.

There is also a medicine DMSO, that will get right into the core of the fever blister and kill all of the bad bacteria. Colds sores are not able to live, once they are exposed to air. If you use DMSO every other day, you will be able to keep from getting the cold sore again.

A great way to get rid of some of the pain is to spread toothpaste on your sore. It is important to apply the toothpaste in accordance with how advanced your case is. There are a lot of people who use toothpaste on their cold sores because it helps relieve the pain caused by the cold sore, and it also helps to dry it up.

Another way to help the process of healing along is to get a lot of exercise, as the fresh air can help you pump up your immune system.
