Cold Sore Lip Herpes

herpes/ cold sore on my girlfriends lip!!!?

I've been with my girlfriend for 5 months. During which she never had 1 outbreak and all of a sudden this morning some red pimple forms right on her lip. I kissed her before I even saw it. Now I'm concerned about our relationship. If I got it already or what? Does her kissing me on the chest with it give me chest or stomach herpes etc.?? Even if she's not having an outbreak she can be contagious right? How do u live like that?

Herpes can be spread to other body parts.. but it is not as likely because it likes thin membranes to infect (aka the lip or genitals) If you have a compromised immune system you might not be so lucky. There is a 30% chance for infection without cold sore symptoms because the virus can still be present on the skin. Avoid oral (including saliva) contact until the sore is completely healed (I would wait two weeks after the cycle).

You can always use a condom for oral sex if you are still paranoid about the 30% chance of infection.

Herpes is not deadly... just embarrassing more then anything else. Try to be considerate of this fact. If both of you understand how to keep each other safe during an outbreak, then the relationship should work out just fine.
