Cold Sore Immunity
how long will this cold last?
my 6 1/2 week old has had a cold since last friday. we took her to the Ped. on tuesday because her eye was all watery and we were told to bring her in since it was her first illness. The Dr. said she had NO hint of ear infection or a sore throat, and her lungs were clear. But the poor thing is so congested. The strange thing is she is acting pretty much normal (smiling, looking around peacefully, eating, etc). How long do colds generally last in newborns??
also, as a side note, i am also fighting a mild cold...i am assuming it is the same virus she has, wouldn't the immunities she is getting through me help her out? what is taking so long? 
is there anything i can do to help her?
Unfortunately there is nothing that can cure the common cold, you can try to make her more comfortable by turning on the hot water in the bath tub and shut the door (this should create a steam room, you are obviously going to hold your baby, NOT put her in the water, the water is only for the purpose of creating steam), sit with your baby in the bathroom for about 10 minutes. The steam should loosen up the mucus, then suction her nose with a bulb syringe. Also use you cool mist humidifier. They say that colds could last up to two weeks.
