Could my doctors misdiagnosed my hsv1 with hsv2?

When growing up i constantly had fever blisters. I got them so much my mom took to me the doctor and the doctor gave me some kind of calicum tablets that were chewable. Tasted like milk. After that i haven't had a fever blister since and that's been well over 10yrs ago. So in my adult years i just assumed i had hsv1 that cause cold sores and fever blisters. No biggie. So one day i decided to get tested for stds so i had blood work done. To make a long story short i was tested positive for hsv2 but negative for hsv1. Which i thought for really weird. I had no symptoms of hsv2. I know there is no cure for herpes so i know i wasn't cured for hsv1 so how did that come back negative but come back positive for hsv2. So i wondering was i misdiagnosed?

A few possible explanations:
- you could have an HSV-2 oral infection (they are almost always asymptomatic) which caused your symptoms years ago.....an oral HSV-2 infection would also be unlikely to have frequent breakouts
- you may never have had HSV-1 (misdiagnosed) and could have genital HSV-2 without noticeable symptoms (many people are unaware they are infected....more than 75%)

You need to speak with your doctor about this. Learn about the possible signs/symptoms of herpes. Studies have shown that once a person with herpes (who wasn't aware they were infected) is taught to recognize the symptoms of herpes, they are more likely to report outbreaks. People often miss or rationalize away symptoms.

The other answer'er is right. The HSV type specific serology can only tell you if you have an infection (neen infected) not where the infection is.
