Cold Sores Contagious
when are cold sores contagious?
my boyfreind gets cold sores about once about every two years, so he says, but are they contagious all the time, as in when there are not any signs of an outbreak, or only when they are present? my sister and some websites say that they are always able to be transmitted, but then again some other places say that they are only trasmitable when there is an outbreak present, or if there are an signs of one. he recently had some white thing on the inside of his lip, but he says it was just an infectioin from soemthing he ate, which is hard to beleive, but it didnt look like a cold sore. i talked to him about it today, and how i was concerned, but he said that they are not contagious unless they are there. daaahh i dont know what to beleive. so what is the truth? all these online doctors get me so confused.
I have always been under the impression as long as you can see the fever blister or a scab it's contagious.
I went to give blood a few years back and I was told I couldn't because I still had a scab on my fever blister, that it was still considered contagious.

If women develop cold sores with the onset of their menstrual cycle in a particular month, it becomes a panic situation for them. The burns of sores are more during this time.
The problem of cold sores gets complicated in the sensitive parts of your body. Especially blisters around the eyes can even damage them. You must be very careful in washing hands and then touching these sensitive organs.
Apart from precautions you must also know some medicinal treatments which will help you to cure this problem. Anti-HSV pills are available in the market but before taking the medicines, always consult the doctor for the right dose. Ointments and creams are also available. The main component in them is acyclovir (5% of the composition) and found in different brand names. Use any one directly on the sores for 4 to 5 times a day. This will certainly provide you with a major relief. But above all there is no substitute to cleanliness to keep the cold sores away.
