Cold Sores Contagious Genital Herpes
Cold Sores Contagious Genital Herpes
Why is HSV2 so much more of a big deal then HSV1?

Ok so I've done some research and I'm confused by a few things, please help.

Ok so like 60% of the population have HSV1 oral herpes, 25%us 15%aust have HSV2 genital herpes.

One more commonly effects mouth, one more commonly effects genitals, right? But they are both as contagious (HSV1 more so) and both can spread even without an outbreak.

So one of the many many people (60%) who has had an oral cold sore at some point in there life could give someone else genital herpes by going down on them, even when they don't have an outbreak. Then that person would have genital herpes and it would suddenly be a big deal and they would have to tell every lover for the rest of their life, right?

The 60% of people with oral HSV1 have probably never even thought of telling someone they are with they have it right?

So why is it so much more of a big deal with HSV2 or genital herpes? Can someone please explain?

Some people don't know that cold sores are caused by HSV1 or oral herpes and that oral herpes are contagious. There fore they never bother telling any one unless they know this. They are told they are "just cold sores" when they are children and children believe almost any thing their parents tell them. It's very common to have oral herpes on the mouth 50-80 percent of the world has cold sores. But call them oral herpes and people will get offended. They don't want to be associated with a gross disease.
Genital herpes (HSV2) lives on the genitals and some people think that genitals are all ready gross to deal with with out having blisters or sores on them. When you add herpes into that then it's very gross, and the pics on the net don't help this matter much either. There is always a risk of getting either type on your genitals, and a risk of passing it on during labor (which is a rare occurrence) or to a new partner.
There is a big negative stigma attached with herpes that makes any one who has herpes gross, nasty or doing dirty things to get herpes. This is not always the case. When some one says some thing like "eeew" or "that's nasty" on an answer that is not help full. This personmay all ready feels bad enough about having herpes. People tend to judge way to quickly, this person could be the nicest person in the world and maybe their partner didn't know that they had herpes.

What Causes Cold Sores

It is estimated that approximately 80% of Americans have the cold sore virus. Of that number, approximately 20% will have an outbreak. But why do people get cold sores, and where do they come from?

Cold sores are also known as fever blisters or to give them a medical name Herpes Simplex 1. There is also a Simplex 2 but this is genital herpes, and although they belong to the same family, they are slightly different. But despite that they are different, simply because they both come from the herpes family people mistakenly believe that they have a cold sore because of sexual activity. This is not the case as cold sores are very common in children as well as adults.

One of the key issues that you need to be aware of with a cold sore is that they are highly contagious when they break out. If you suffer an outbreak please be considerate and refrain from kissing or having oral sex with your partner. Other precautions you should take when you have an outbreak is not to share any eating utensils or napkins. In fact the virus is so contagious that I would recommend that you should avoid sharing the following as well :-

Drinking out of the same glass as someone else

Sharing a towel

Sharing a razor

Using the same pillow as someone who has an outbreak.

Now this may all seem a little extreme, but really, it is that contagious. For instance it is documented that one of the ways it spreads so quickly among children is by them touching their effected area with their hand and then touching the hand of another child who inadvertently then puts their hand around the mouth area.

So when you have the virus what can cause an outbreak? Well there are several factors that can spark a cold sore off. The most common are when you are tired or stressed . Other times they can be triggered are if your immune system is down from say a cold or flu (although they are not called cold sores because of this). One final thing to add to this is that once you have the herpes simplex virus, it is with you for life as at present there is no cure.
