Cold Sore Spread

HSV-1 Can a cold sore (herpes) spread after it has cleared up?
When is it safe for contact by another individual without me spreading the HSV-1 cold sore to that person? Are they still likely to spread even when I don't have a cold sore anymore but had one in the past? Please provide actual information from a website or personal knowledge if you have had a profession dealing in the medical or pharmacudical field, as I can't stand stupid responses when I have a serious curiosity.
Yes, it is safe to have contact when it has cleared. However, some idiot kissed you or had contact with you while their sore was infected, that's why you contracted it in the first place. It is a very irritating virus. I wouldn't suggest kissing someone who has the sore obviously infected. It will reawaken yours and it will get infected all over again. If you shake hands with them, wash them with soap because they might have touched their mouth.
