Tongue piercing aftercare q's?

Just got my tongue pierced last night. Not too much swelling but it's sore! Drinking lots of cold water and melting ice on my tongue.
ok now cleaning.
I have H2Ocean spray
But my piercer told me to use non alcohol mouthwash, would a kids mouthwash work well. Like Smart Rinse from listerine?
any remedies for being able to eat. I'm trying tomato soup through a straw.. still it's sore. (I'm so hungry)
Thanks Everyone!
I Love sonic slushies lol! I'll have to go get one. I usually do very well and pain free with piercings.. I thought this one would be a breeze
Thanks. Yeah this is my 12th piercing. I love it. I can't wait until it heals!

I got my tongue pierced about 6 months ago. My piercer told me to drink slushies (like from Sonic) and to take ibuprofen for the pain and swelling. I dunno about the H2Ocean spray, as my piercer told me to use Listerine. The first few days I had mine done, I ate Easy-Mac Macoroni and Cheese. I just put one or two noodles in my mouth towards the very back.

Edit: Okay seriously. The dairy thing that the girl below me is talking about is just a myth. There's no harm in it. However, I do agree with the person that said be careful when eating because it will hurt if you touch the barbell.
Also, once the piercing is completely healed and you can change the barbells, be sure to keep the balls tight so they won't fall off. <-- I've had that happen, more than once.

Old School Cold Remedies

Growing up it seemed that no matter what was wrong with my brother and I, my mom always had something with a nasty taste or smell that would heal any cuts and scrapes and I swear if I came home with plague she would have made some kind of bubbling potion that would cure it.

Vitamin C
The first thing someone will tell you to do when you have a cold is drink plenty of hot tea with lemon. This is because lemon contains vitamin C. when taken in times of health it can help keep your immune system strong so the body can fight off the germs that cause a cold, but once you have a cold it also help shorten the duration f the cold and helps relieve the symptoms of the cold as well.

Antiseptic Soup:
I know the name Antiseptic soup does not sound appealing, but the soup is made from garlic. The soup helps open the repertory system. The soup also helps kill the germs already in the body causing the cold, and by adding a tablespoon of onion juice you can help remove toxins from your body to help speed the body's recovery time.

Ginger Tea:
If you have a cold with a fever the answer is tea with ginger. This does not mean make a cup of tea with a tea bag of ginger tea. This does not have enough ginger in it to make a difference. What you need to do is cut up several pieces of ginger, approximately a quarter of an ounce, and put it in a pot. Put a cup of water in the pot and bring it to a boil. After the water boils, strain the chunks of ginger out of the water and pour the remains into a glass add sugar for taste, and drink it.

Okra:
Okra is a green vegetable, that kind of looks like a cross of a pepper and zucchini. The vegetable is filled with Mucilage, which is great for soothing sore throats. Cut about 10 grams of Okra and boil them in about 1 liter of water. After the water boils you can inhale the steam and drink the water. The water will look oily. This oil is what sooths your sore throat.

Seeds and Nuts:
After the fever goes down it is permissible for the patient to resume eating solid foods, but it is best to stick with fruits, vegetables seeds and nuts, and avoid things like dairy and meats for the first day or two.

Bitter Gourd Roots
Many of my mom's remedies are for relieving the symptoms of the cold like a fever or a sore throat but this one is for clearing up the actual cold itself. A past of the gourd is used with honey with a 1 to 1 mixture. A teaspoon of the mixture is taken at night for a month. This will remove the cold germs and help strengthen the immune system.

Turmeric:
Turmeric is a cure all. It not only relieves the symptoms of the cold like runny nose and sore throat, it also helps kill the cold germs and strengthen the immune system all at once. The turmeric is bought as a powder. Add half a teaspoon is added to a cup of milk them boiled. The steam should be inhaled while it is boiling then poured into a glass, allowed to cool slightly then drink twice a day. Your nose will start to run much more then before but in a day you will feel much better.

These were just some of my mom's home remedies from the old country. I hope they help keep your kids as well as they did my bother and I.
