Cold Sore Peppermint Oil

How much peppermint essential oil is toxic?
I just read that peppermint oil could be good for cold sores, so I mixed about two drops with a dab of hand sanitizer and put on my cold sore. I have to save that the sore feels much better. But now I read that peppermint essential oil can be toxic even in small doses. Have I done something that will poison me or cause me harm?
Peppermint is used in a lot of products, including lip glosses (quite high content in some as a matter of fact,Sally Hanson's Lip Inflation would be one example), so I'm sure you're fine. Now Essential Oils are VERY powerful,so yes...they must be properly diluted for safety.I'm not sure what the dilution ratio is on Peppermint so hopefully somebody else will come along who knows to help you:-)
EDIT: Again I do not know the "exact" ratio...but two drops, for something as small as a cold sore...is probably WAY to much,I'd say like a "dab" on your finger in combo with a carrier oil/vaseline,ect.
