Cold Sore Outbreaks

less cold sore outbreaks?
what can i do to get less cold sore outbreaks? im not much of a healthy eater and i use lots of abreva but i still get cold sores ALOT!!
Get plenty of rest. Keep your lips soft with Chapstick or some other lip softener (if that's where you get them). We used to get smallpox vaccinations as a way to avoid them but no longer. Probably was no way to confirm that this helped. I am taking L-Lysine as a supplement which is supposed to help. The second you feel a tingle, put on the Abreva because it really does help. If you get lots of outbreaks, your doctor might give you either the one day dose (two pills in a.m., two pills in p.m.) of Valtrex or a daily pill. The Herpes simplex virus stays in your system and flares up under anything that can cause stress--too much sun, too much wind, being tired, you name it, it can cause an outbreak. Mine often come in clusters, get several in a two month period, then 6 months without any. There is never a specific thing I can point to as, ah ha, that's what did it. Sometimes I wake up with a full blown cold sore, but my doctor now says that I can take Valtrex at that time. He used to say that unless I caught it at the tingle stage, Valtrex wouldn't help.
Anything that helps you stay in good health, eating right, exercise, rest can keep you from getting into a state where you are likely to get cold sores.
