Cold Sore Outbreak Duration

cold sores and Abreva?

I have been getting cold sores for years now and never used anything on them. During my last outbreak I used Abreva, which only shortened the duration by a day (maybe I didn't use it early enough?). But after the sore was gone I had a red scar for 4 months (it's still there but seems to be going away). I had never had any scars from cold sores before. Anybody else get a scar using Abreva or other medicine?

I'm so glad that you asked this question because I, too, have a red scar on my upper lip due to a recurring cold sore. It usually goes away after a LONG while - I've never really counted but 4 months sounds about right. I always use Neosporin + pain reliever for my cold sores and still get the scar even though Neosporin is supposed to prevent them. Someone on Yahoo Answers told me that rose oil was a good solution to facial scars but I haven't tried it yet.
