Cold Sore Outbreak Causes
I have oral herpes....?
I get facial cold sores, after one break out goes away another pops up. I want to go on Valtrex or Acyclovir. Does anyone know how good these meds work? Can they cause liver damage if I only take them when I feel an outbreak coming on? And are the side affects dangerous? Ive heard of people experiencing nausea/dizzyness/even temporary memory loss. But I seriously dont know what to do. Im currently in the process of quitting smoking, can smoking trigger a cold sore outbreak???
If you are having more than 2-3 recurrences within a few weeks, you should take the Acyclovir or the Valtrex. They are very well tolerated. Yes...they might cause some nausea. They do not often cause liver damage. Smoking does not precipitate an attack. Most common cause of recurrence of the the cold sores are....fever, STRESS and sun....and of course immunosuppresion.

2. Being exposed to wind is also a cause of cold sores. If it's cold outside and the wind is blowing, you may have an outbreak.
3. Stress is another cause of cold sores. If you experience severe stress, you are at risk of an outbreak.
4. Another cause of cold sores is sun exposure. Over exposure of the sun can cause you to have an outbreak. So, limit the time you spend in the sun.
5. Having a weak immune system is another cause of cold sores. If you have a weak immune system, you are vulnerable to an outbreak. So, if you have chronic outbreaks, your immune system is weak. Make sure you eat well-balanced meals.
