Yes, it is actually one of the many strains of herpes virus. It's not the virus that causes genital herpes, but it is similar... It's also extremely common, about 80% of people have them, so don't let the word "herpes" freak you out
In fact - you definitely do not want to have oral sex with your girlfriend while you have sores because she could actually get the same type of sores "down there" - as I'm sure you know, the soft pink skin in your mouth is very similar to the soft pink skin around the vagina - and the virus can spread to that skin too. So do her a favor and just don't go down there while you have a sore.
That being said, there is a fairly good remedy to get rid of them within a day or two. Mouth sores thrive on moisture and the virus will die very quickly if the area is dried out for a while. Mind you, it will burn pretty bad when you do it, but give this a try and when the sores are a LOT better tomorrow - come back and give me best answer
Take a piece of paper towel, tear out pieces that are about the size of a cotton ball and put it right on top of the sore. Hold it there for a few minutes... Whenever the towel starts to get moist, put another piece of fresh dry towel against it. Also, stick your tongue out (or cheek, or wherever the sore is) and inhale so the air you're breathing in dries out the spot. Keep doing this for about 20-30 minutes and make sure you don't let the sore get *any* moisture to it... Repeat the same thing every few hours and tomorrow you should see a marked improvement.
Good luck!!
