Can you give blood if you have open canker sores???

I have an appointment with the Red Cross tomorrow and I have a really nasty canker sore... NOT a cold sore (the kind I have are the kind inside my lip). I was reading about canker sores and I read that they're not contagious but that the most probably cause is a virus??? Isn't that a mixed message?
Should I give blood if I have canker sores or should I wait and give blood when they're gone????
