Cold Sore Kiss
A family member with a cold sore kissed my cheek in greeting. I'm afraid now I will catch the virus?
I might just be being a hypochondriac, but one of my family members kissed my cheek (I hadn't seen him in a while) before I could notice he had a huge cold sore and stop him! I am scared now that I will catch the virus that causes cold sores . . . can it be caught this way, or would he have had to kiss my mouth?
I would not worry about it. Oral herpes are spread through saliva exchanges such as kissing and drinking after someone that has it. I have had oral herpes ever since I was a kid. I got them from my mother. My sister has shared drinks with me on several occasions and she has never gotten it. So I don't think a kiss on the cheek is a big deal at all.
