Cold Sore Is Itchy
Difference between a spot on my lip and a cold sore?
ive had a medium sized red spot on my bottom lip for 2 days when i squeeze it clear liquid comes out but its really painful. its not painful most of the time and not at all itchy...if it was a spot usually it would have started to clear up by now??
From your description it is impossible to tell what it is for sure. It sounds like it could be a cold sore, but it might not be. If it is right on your lip, the chances are good that it might be a cold sore. But do stop picking at it, as it will only make it worse, and it may take longer for it to heal.
Many people have the cold sore virus dormant in their bodies, and never have a flare up of cold sores. They may have contracted it as children, as it is a very common virus, and children pick it up easily as they often share food and drinks, and may be less concerned about hand washing and hygiene. Cold sores can be transmitted even when the person does not have a cold sore, though it is less likely to happen then.
There is no over-the-counter medication or home remedy that cures cold sores. If you think it is a cold sore, talk to your doctor about a prescription for Valtrex, which is an anti-viral medication that stops cold sores in their tracks.
