cold sore-home remedies? and scared of spreading?
i havnt had a cold sore in 3 or 4 years. i got the little blisters today and its a little painful. does the ice cube and alcohol thing really work?
also, i didnt realize i was getting one till this morning and i kissed my boyfriend last night. now im scared that maybe he will get one. im doing the whole dont touch it and wash your hands stuff. im being careful and told my boyfriend so he doesnt kiss me. but now im terrified that he will get one or somehow get genital herpes from it. [im thinking like somehow getting it on my hands then going to the bathroom or something] im really freaking out. help!
You're doing the right things by not touching it and leaving it alone. The more you disturb it with ice and alcohol, the more you will aggravate it and prevent it from healing on its own. Cold sores are often stress related. I know mine are. I can tell when something really stresses me because the next day I'll have an outbreak.
I wouldn't worry too much about spreading your cold sore. I seem to recall that about 90% of people have the herpes simplex virus that effects the mouth and while you can pass cold sore from the mouth to the genitals, that could only happen if you gave your boyfriend oral sex and even then it's not likely.
So, don't worry. Take a deep breath. Drink a glass of orange juice (to help boost your immune system) and wait it out.
Oh and I've heard that you can now buy anti-viral medication for cold sores.
