Difference Between Cold and Flu?
There are little things we can do everyday to stay healthy. Sometimes, despite our best efforts, we catch a cold or flu. Antibiotics are ineffectual in treating viruses. However, there are some alternative methods we can use to lessen flu and cold symptoms.
The Old Standbys. Chicken soup has been proven, over the years, to ease symptoms of the flu. Garlic contains immune boosting substances. Recent studies have shown that garlic may also have an effect on pain reduction. Add a bulb of garlic, onions or leeks and celery to your chicken, when making chicken stock. Freeze it and keep it on hand for use when cold or flu symptoms hit.
Flu is caused by one of three influenza viruses each year worldwide; vaccines are prepared yearly to tackle the relevant strains. Most people will feel terrible, but recover well. However vulnerable people such as the very young or old, or people with chronic health conditions, are at a greater risk from flu. For these people and for health-workers vaccination is suggested.
While everyone may not know everything about a cold or the flu, everyone does know that they hate getting sick. Who doesn't hate putting their daily life on hold for an extremely annoying, down right obnoxious cold? Every year, there are over a billion cases of the cold and flu in the U.S. Most of you have probably been victims more than a few times throughout your life. Knowing the basics about the common cold and flu will help you protect yourself from getting sick this year!
Peppermint is a cooling herb to cool down a fever or sore throat and aids in healing you from other symptoms of the cold and flu. Peppermint herbal honey is a tasty and delicious way to add this herb to your cold and flu herbal remedy arsenal.

Chop an onion into small bits. Let it set for a few minutes to draw out the powerful medicinal properties. The onion can be used raw or it can be sautéed gently. Put the chopped onion in the center of a square of fabric. You can use flannel, an old t-shirt or a pillowcase. Fold the fabric over and roll or fold the edges to make a 'hem'. Secure the edges with safety pins to keep the onion bits from falling out.
Place the poultice on the patient's chest or soles of the feet. The sole of the foot quickly absorbs herbal treatments, in fact, some people rub ointments like Vick's on the feet when they are sick. You can also place the poultice on sore joints and behind the ear for an ear infection. Check your patient every 15-30 minutes to make sure that there's not any skin irritation.
Normally you should not need to go to the hospital with H1N1. But the virus can lead to other illnesses - bronchitis, pneumonia, sepsis and asthma flare-ups.
