Cold Sore Bleeding

My 8 year old has a cold sore (I guess) and it won't stop bleeding. What do I do?
My daughter has had a little raised blister on the side of her lip for about a week and a half. I wondered if it was a cold sore, but no one in my family has ever had one, so I wasn't sure. The nurse at the school called me today and said that my daughter had been in the clinic 7 or 8 times because the cold sore was bleeding and she had to sit there til it stopped and the nurse suggested that I get some medicine from the pharmacy. Well, silly me, I didn't. When my daughter was getting ready for bed, brushing her teeth made the cold sore start to bleed again and it won't stop. It's been bleeding for nearly an hour now. And I don't mean just spotting blood...I mean she's soaking paper towel after paper towel and spitting huge amounts of blood into the sink. I'm getting worried now. I don't know how to make it stop bleeding. All I know is to put pressure and ice on it, and that is not working. Please help!
Is it normal for cold sores to bleed this much?
No it isn't normal for a cold sore to bleed like this.
Did you happen to notice if that blister had a golden colored crust? Does it seem to be spreading. If yes, it is a staph aureus infection, commonly known as impetigo. I have seen them bleed alot.
Regardless, she needs to go to the doctor tomorrow.
Do you have any alum in your spice cabinet? This is what they make stytpic pencils out of and a dab of it on her mouth should stop the bleeding for tonight.
If it doesn't, you should take your daughter to the ER.
