What's the best way to get rid of a cold sore?
I have had this cold sore for almost 9 days as of 12/10/2009. It is located on my lower lip just a little left of center. As for looking around online I have noticed these as possible treatments without visiting a doctor: Abreva, Carmex, Bag Balm.
To each their own but what would be the best in treatment, I am willing to spend a little on this as
a clearing up treatment within a short amount of time is the goal.
Also a follow up or two:
-is it good to bust/pop the cold sore and then apply treatment?
-would applying something cold or even rubbing alcohol help as well?
Thanks.
Cold sores take around 2 weeks to heal up and applying a drying cream such as Abreva will help. Do not break the tiny sores open, this just spreads the virus around the area and the next cold sore you get will be even larger. Clean the area with soap and water, pat it dry and apply the drying cream a couple of times per day. Then, wait for it to heal.
