home remedies to a sore throat anyone?
Dear Harpy,
One posible cause for your sore throat may be the bulimia. The stomach juices contains strong acids which are normal and good to digest food. However, bulimia brings the strong acids back into the esophagus and up to the throat when the acid can injure the lining of the esophagus and throat. After throwing up (emesis), you may get a burning feeling in your chest and throat. At a minimum, after vomiting, immediately try to take sufficient water to wash back down the acid in your throat and esophagus.
If your sore throat is due to a virus, then you can try the following home treatment remedies:
Home treatment is usually all that is needed for a sore throat caused by a virus. These tips may help you feel better.
Gargle with warm salt water to help reduce swelling and relieve discomfort: Gargle at least once each hour with 1 teaspoon of salt dissolved in 8 ounces (500 mL) of warm water.
If you have postnasal drip, gargle often to prevent more throat irritation.
Prevent dehydration. Fluids may help thin secretions and soothe an irritated throat. Hot fluids, such as tea or soup, may help decrease throat irritation.
Use a vaporizer or cool air humidifier in your bedroom.
Warm or cool mist may help you feel more comfortable by soothing the swollen air passages. It may also relieve hoarseness. However, don't let your room become uncomfortably cold or very damp.
Use a shallow pan of water to provide moisture in the air through evaporation if you don't have a humidifier. Place the pan in a safe location where no one will trip on it or fall into it.
Do not smoke or use other tobacco products and avoid secondhand smoke.
Consider taking nonprescription medicine for your symptoms.
Use nonprescription throat lozenges.
Some nonprescription throat lozenges, such as Sucrets Maximum Strength or Spec-T, are safe and effective and have medicine (local anesthetic) that numbs the throat to soothe pain.
Regular cough drops may also help.
Use a decongestant. Decongestants make breathing easier by shrinking swollen mucous membranes in the nose, allowing air to pass through. They also help relieve a runny nose and postnasal drip, which can cause a sore throat.
Decongestants can be taken orally or used as decongestant nasal sprays. Oral decongestants (pills) are probably more effective and provide longer relief but may cause more side effects.
Medicine you can buy without a prescription Try a nonprescription medicine to help treat your fever or pain:
Acetaminophen, such as Tylenol or Panadol
Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs)
Ibuprofen, such as Advil or Motrin
Naproxen, such as Aleve or Naprosyn
Aspirin (also a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug), such as Bayer or Bufferin
Safety tips Be sure to follow these safety tips when you use a nonprescription medicine:
Carefully read and follow all directions on the medicine bottle and box.
Do not take more than the recommended dose.
Do not take a medicine if you have had an allergic reaction to it in the past.
If you have been told to avoid a medicine, call your doctor before you take it.
If you are or could be pregnant, do not take any medicine other than acetaminophen unless your doctor has told you to.
Good luck.!
Swine Flu Symptoms
Swine flu the new human influenza virus A (H1N1) is still very much in the news. Keiji Fukuda the World Health Organisation (WHO) chief says that the disease is has reached 64 countries and infected 19,273 people to date, causing 117 deaths.

The WHO is getting closer to declaring the global outbreak the flu virus and flu-like symptoms now at phase 5 but getting closer to phase 6. Phase 6 is the highest alert on the WHO scale. It signals to the whole world that it is a human pandemic, transferrable from human to human, unlike avian flu which has not as yet reached this condition.
So, what are the symptoms? Some are chest infection symptoms the sudden onset of fever, symptoms of bronchitis, a chronic dry cough or shortness of breath. Other symptoms can include headache, sore throat, tiredness, aching muscles, chills, sneezing, runny nose and loss of appetite. Some cases have experienced gastrointestinal symptoms (vomiting, nausea and or diarrhoea.)
How does swine flu spread? Flu viruses are made up of tiny particles that can be spread through droplets that come out of the nose and mouth when you cough or sneeze. When you cough or sneeze without covering your nose and mouth with a tissue, these droplets can spread with the risk of others breathing them in.
Always without fail cough or sneeze into a tissue and then bin it and then wash your hands thoroughly. If you cough or sneeze into your hand, the germs and spread from your hand to any surfaces that you touch. Everyday items such as door handles, elevator buttons, computer keyboards, door handles, telephones and TV remote controls are all common surfaces where flu viruses can linger, sometimes for days. If then other people touch these surfaces and then touch their faces, the germs can enter their systems and so become infected.
If swine flu spreads, you need to keep informed and up to date, as the situation changes, check the TV channels and radio, for updates check with my blog and I will keep you posted.
