Cold Sore After Fever
My bf has cold sores... we haven't kissed yet... I don't want to ever get them... should we just break up?
I have been seeing a new guy for almost 2 months now. We haven't kissed or done anything intimate. When we hung out this past weekend he had a cold sore on his top lip... I said... you have cold sores? and he said yeah I guess... I said... I hear that cold sores are a form of herpes.... and he said I don't know I wouldn't care if it was... I said well that's just something I've heard I've never researched it... The conversation was dropped and I made a note to self to do research once alone. After all of the info that I've read... I'm kinda freaked out. He has a toothbrush in my droor, he's used my hand towels to dry his face and he kissed my hand while he had the outbreak. After seeing the pictures of cold sores/fever blisters... I really don't want to ever have to deal with something like that. He is a really nice guy though which are few and far between these days and I really like him a lot!!! But, I'm not sure if this is worth the risk of contracting oral or genital herpes.
If you want to break up over cold sores, then just do it.
Just to let you know though, by the time a child is age 10, he has a 60% chance of already carrying the herpes virus which causes oral cold sores. By the age of 50, 80-90% of people carry the virus. It's very common.
