What should I do? (Sore Throat)?

Hi all,

I just woke up with a really painful sore throat. My uvula seems to be extended, because it is now resting partly on my tongue and, mine does not normally do that.

I've heard that I need to stay away from dairy products, anything cold and alcohol, etc. (aka: things that hurt your throat normally). I've also heard that tea, lemon, honey, salt water, lozenges and acetylsalicylic acid/ibuprofen/acetaminophen are all things that will help with the sore throat.

So I was just wondering what is true with what I said before, what is suggested to do and to stay away from. Also, its best to note that I do not have lozenges (Its 5am, so I can't get them either) and my tea is really sketchy and from bulk barn (kinda two in the same), so I'm not sure whether its going to actually be beneficial.

Thanks!

Since you're not able to go to a chemist, I would suggest gargling with warm salty water for relief and to possibly help reduce inflammation that may be caused by bacteria or other germs. The relief isn't long lasting so you will need to repeat as required. I would also suggest you stay away from dairy products and keep hydrated - if you're not hot with fever, you could drink hot boiled water (perhaps add a little cold water to it) to help with pain and hydration. Stay away from dairy, lemon, acidic food/drink and alcohol.

When you are able to, get to a doctor as you may need penicillin or antibiotics.

Hope that helps.

Take care.
